Funny Kaye should mention Billy Wolfe. I interviewed his sisters, twins Maxine Wolfe Zirkle and Madeline Wolfe Litten, in 1992; they were 16 and Billy was 18 when he was killed. I used the interview for a podcast a couple of years ago, I hope you don't mind a link, as this is World War S.H.E. it's kind of appropriate. Last I heard, a few months ago, the twins are 93, both widowed, and living together somewhere in the Shenandoah Valley, where they all grew up. I'm hoping to go down there for a visit soon. Here's a link to the podcast: https://five.libsyn.com/show/episodes/view/19246907

Just an addendum to the above. That's not my full interview with the twins, but rather a group of stories about losing relatives or buddies in the war.

Fantastic interview! My cousin James Privoznik was also with the 90th Division. I've also met Vern and work with the 90th Historian for all my client research projects. In 2015 I walked James' footsteps through Europe to the place he was KIA on 11 January 1945, a forest in Bras, Belgium. He is buried at ABMC Luxembourg. We took his burial flag with us and flew it over the cemetery. I also took the book I wrote with his story (in "Stories of the Lost" in it to take photos of at the grave with his flag. The book was also donated to the cemetery archives.

If you are interested, I also wrote a book about Virginia Scharer ("The Tiger's Widow) which tells Ginny's story from meeting and marrying my cousin AVG Flying Tiger Robert Brouk (his story and war diary are in the book mentioned above), marrying him and 3 weeks later watching him die in a plane crash training pilots. She joined the WAC and served in Egypt to both take up his fight and not fall into a deep depression. Her book tells her story. This month she will even be 102.

She worked in the Medical area and handled records for patients and also took care of secretarial work. Some of which included notifying the next of kin when someone was Missing In Action, was in the hospital there or had died. She was there from part of 1944 through the end of the war. She met her second husband there as well.
